Leather Divination Mats Elder Futhark

Description

Divination mats bearing the 24 symbols of the Elder Futhark runes are created using finished cow or buffalo leather with the following attributes:

  • Leather ranges in weight from 2.5 to 5 ounces per square foot, or roughly, per mat. Pictures show a rolled or curled mat to try to convey how the weight of the leather translates to its pliability; the heavier the weight the stiffer the leather, with the exception of the platinum finish, which is the most stiff, or least pliable.

  • Mats come in 6 colors/finish types; black pebble finish , red , shiny bright yellow crocodile print , mustard (tan) or (golden) yellow(see individual descriptions for details for each mat), grey, and platinum, which is a metallic silvery-grey finish.

    The platinum finished leather is very shiny but not glossy, and is stiffer and less pliable than the other 5 types.

    The shiny yellow crocodile print leather is very bright, thin and super pliable, and has visible scales resembling those on a croc hide.

    The mustard, red and grey mats are more or less smooth with some lines and variations as they are “traditional” leather hides

  • Each mat is a rough hand cut circle that is 13 to 15 inches in diameter, containing a hand painted rune circle that is 12 inches in diameter and contains all 24 Elder Futhark rune symbols.

  • Oil enamel paint is used and it is permanent. The circular rune design does not vary from mat to mat, however the placement of the runes in the circle is entirely random from mat to mat, as are the colors of oil enamel used to create the patterns and the artwork that embellishes each mat. Every mat is a unique creation, no two will ever be exactly the same.

Inspiration for each design can arrive in a variety of ways, some planned and some unexpected! it can come from the materials used, nature, sounds, colors, thoughts and memories, for example;

  • Through focused meditation, scrying, and candle flame work, images presented are incorporated into a new mat design

  • From the whisper of possibility presented by a freshly cut circle of plain leather

  • From the loud, sometimes boisterous chatter of the oil enamel markers clamoring for recognition

  • Sometimes from glimpses of colors in a swirling sky as a brewing storm collides with a still shining sun

  • From the galactic presentation made by the sky on a clear, starry night lit by the soft glow of the full moon

These are some inspirations captured in the artwork of leather divination mats; let your intuition guide you to the one meant for you.
