Gem and Bead Wrap Necklaces
Hand crocheted using nylon, perle cotton, or silk thread. Crocheting the thread adds strength and resilience to each piece, while incorporating the gems and beads seamlessly into each design without the need for a clasp - just wrap to fit neck or wrist. Can be loosely knotted at the neck.
Nylon is super strong, has stretch, and will last a long time, however on shorter pieces the drape is not as fluid, although nylon is a good material if you plan to use the piece as a wrap bracelet.
Silk has a beautiful sheen, is very strong, has minimal stretch, and excellent drape characteristics in a necklace, imparting a more delicate look to the piece that belies the strength of the silk.
Perle cotton also has a nice sheen, excellent drape, but almost no stretch, and is decidedly more fragile than nylon and silk. Better used as a necklace, as the extra wrapping and wrist movement required when used as a bracelet will tend to break down the cotton more quickly.
A variety of gems were used to create the pieces. The gems impart their energies to each piece and also to the wearer, offering up their unique frequencies such as protection, love, calmness, good fortune, grounding, insight, compassion, and a whole host of additional attributes.
Premium gems like aquamarine, rhodonite, amethyst, K2 granite, and sodalite.
Other gems may include aventurine, labradorite, moonstone, hematite, rose quartz, obsidian, tiger’s eye, howlite, zebra jasper, pyrite, and agate.
Many styles and sizes of glass beads in all types of finishes are incorporated into the pieces, including picasso style finishes, as well as faceted crystal bi-cones and rondelles, silver, bronze, & gold metal beads, hematite and glass cubes, magatamas, and pandora-style beads. The myriad of bead styles lends variety and ensures each piece is unique, so you can rest assured there is not another piece exactly like yours anywhere.
